Multi-Site Technology Retirement

One workflow from store pickup to final reporting.

Keep site-level visibility while consolidating secure processing, testing, value recovery, and final reconciliation.

Coordinate every site

Plan shipping or collection around store hours, access requirements, refresh waves, and central staging locations.

Track identifiable assets

Available serials, asset tags, models, locations, condition, and processing results support store-level reconciliation.

Recover remaining value

Eligible equipment is assessed by model, configuration, condition, quantity, and current secondary-market demand.

Retail Environments

Structured for active stores and planned transitions.

National and regional retailers

Coordinate refreshes across store networks, offices, warehouses, and distribution sites through one defined program.

Grocery and pharmacy

Retire POS systems, handheld devices, kiosks, computers, mobile hardware, and eligible back-office infrastructure.

Restaurants and hospitality

Consolidate front-of-house, back-office, mobile, network, and administrative technology from multiple locations.

Convenience and fuel

Recover eligible devices from distributed sites with collection plans designed around operating hours and site access.

Specialty and franchise networks

Support corporate, franchise, and regional technology refreshes while keeping site-level inventories distinct.

Store closures and remodels

Remove eligible technology from relocations, closures, renovations, acquisitions, and format changes on a planned schedule.

Technology We Process

Store, office, mobile, and infrastructure assets.

Combine eligible customer-facing and back-office technology in one reviewed inventory.

POS and checkout hardware

Registers, POS computers, displays, receipt printers, cash-drawer controllers, scanners, and eligible peripherals.

Kiosks and tablets

Self-service kiosks, customer-facing tablets, digital ordering devices, and eligible interactive hardware.

Handheld and mobile devices

Inventory scanners, rugged handhelds, smartphones, tablets, and other managed mobile technology.

Office and back-room IT

Laptops, desktops, workstations, monitors, docks, printers, and standard workplace accessories.

Network and infrastructure

Switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, servers, storage, and eligible edge equipment.

Mixed-condition inventory

Working, worn, damaged, incomplete, and end-of-life assets can be reviewed, though not every item will retain value.

How It Works

Retail ITAD in six stages.

Define the project before equipment moves, then connect each site and asset to a documented outcome.

1. Define the project

Confirm locations, equipment ownership, device categories, refresh schedule, site constraints, and required reporting.

2. Review the inventory

Share models, counts, serials, asset tags, locations, condition notes, and available deployment records.

3. Plan site logistics

Use prepaid shipping, courier collection, freight, or central consolidation based on volume and operating requirements.

4. Record and sanitize

Assets are identified at intake, and eligible data-bearing devices follow NIST-aligned sanitization procedures.

5. Test and reconcile

Reusable equipment is tested and graded, with available identifiers matched to processing and valuation results.

6. Report and settle

Receive itemized project reporting and payment for equipment with confirmed buyback value.

Store-Level Controls

Prepare ownership, data, and access before collection.

Confirm equipment ownership

Separate owned assets from leased terminals, processor-owned equipment, landlord systems, and vendor-managed hardware.

Complete retention decisions

Back up and retain required information before assets are released for sanitization or another final outcome.

Remove management controls

Release MDM enrollment, activation locks, accounts, passwords, encryption keys, and other controls where required.

Document site handoff

Assign contacts, staging areas, access windows, packing instructions, and location identifiers before pickup.

Program Outcomes

Useful records for technology, operations, and finance.

Consolidated reporting

Review site, model, identifier, condition, processing, and valuation details in one final project record.

Mixed-fleet support

Combine POS, mobile, workplace, and eligible infrastructure instead of separating vendors by category.

Repeatable refreshes

Use the same intake and logistics framework for phased rollouts, seasonal changes, remodels, and future refresh cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Retail IT asset disposition questions.

What retail IT equipment can Sphere process?

Eligible projects can include POS terminals, registers, tablets, kiosks, handheld scanners, laptops, desktops, monitors, phones, network hardware, servers, storage, and related store technology. Payment terminals, leased equipment, and specialized hardware should be identified during project review.

Can one program cover many stores and distribution sites?

Yes. Sphere can coordinate prepaid shipments, courier collection, or freight from stores, offices, warehouses, distribution centres, and central staging locations, then consolidate results into one reporting and payment workflow.

How is data on retail devices handled?

Eligible data-bearing devices follow NIST-aligned sanitization procedures. Available serial numbers, asset tags, models, condition results, and processing outcomes can be included in itemized reporting.

Does the program satisfy every payment-card requirement?

No single disposition workflow determines an organization's legal, contractual, or payment-card obligations. The retailer remains responsible for account closure, encryption keys, retention decisions, approvals, leased equipment releases, and applicable requirements.

Can leased or managed store equipment be included?

Only equipment the organization is authorized to release should be included. Confirm ownership, lease returns, processor agreements, MDM enrollment, activation locks, accounts, and management controls before collection.

Do older or damaged retail devices have value?

Some working, worn, damaged, incomplete, or older equipment may retain value. Model, specifications, age, condition, configuration, quantity, and current market demand determine each asset's final outcome.
